Oshkosh Airventure 2008

It killed me to miss it Dave.... Unfortunatley my bird is still sick from her bath, it's looking like the stator is shot. I'd hoped to be back in action in time but it was not to be. I'll be there...

"Wing Trolley"

I'm thinking about building a "wing trolley" that I can use to move my Q2 wing while rigged. I'd like to be able to detach the wing from the trike, and use the trolley to wheel the wing about 100' over grass. Has anyone seen this kind of thing done, or better yet have any pictures? I picture the wing resting on the nose and control bar, on wheels, pulled sideways to get through the opening that I have to work with. Very similar to Bob Bedwell's… Continue

Congratulations Spencer, We're 500 Members Strong!

I just want to congratulate Spence on reaching the 500 member milestone, and welcome Lucian Huot! I don't know what I'd do without the videos, pictures, and stories of members still in the air to sustain me during the off season. The advice, commentary, and camaraderie are what the sport is all about about for me. And the flying ain't bad either! ;) Great work Spence!

I've got it bad.....

This is what happens when you haven't flown in a while, you have a pizza party with the kids at Spencer's, and you're playing Legos with your son afterwards.... I need to get in the air and quick.

Airplanegear.com

I just want to do a shameless plug for Airplanegear.com. I've done business with them a few times in the last several weeks for all kinds of goodies; radio, gps, Lynx system headset & helmet etc. Rob Rollison who runs the show over there has been very knowlegable and helpful with all of it. I've also just ordered an Ozee suit and bar mitts from them to keep warm this season. And if you happen to be in the market for an LSA fixed wing he's selling the Eur… Continue

I've left the nest....

...and more importantly was able to return to it in one piece! On Sunday morning after a few more engine out drills and touch & go laps around the pattern at Shawnee Field Alistair asked for a full stop landing. As we rolled to a stop near the hanger he announced "I'm getting out"... oooh boy. After another run through the pre-takeoff check list I back taxied 18 and took off.

Even though I was mentally prepared for the fact that the Quantum was going to be a lot lighter, the lift…

My Trike adventure begins.....

I've dreamt of flying for most of my 40 years. I always thought that meant an old Cessna 172 and a lifetime supply of "$300 hamburgers". Then I met Spence, our sons are classmates in kindergarten. We were invited to spend Memorial Day at "the farm" in Michigan. The next thing I knew I was climbing 1000 fpm in the back seat of his Quik. Well that took care of that. As of yesterday I am the proud owner of a White Quantum 912.

Last weekend I rode backseat in the Quik with Spence…

Hi Rob. The ski is made by me. The wood ski is 3 ply off 3mm birh plywood made by a friend and the rest is my own construction. The ski stand is made off 1,5mm stainless steel and powder coated. I made three new shaft (weel axel?) to go with the ski to make the swoop in a half hour. The ski is great in deep snow and do flex over a snowmobile track.

More exitement this weekend.... Training on 60 degree bank angles and spiral dive recovery. The cooler temperatures really tame the turbulence, little or no thermal action going on. My new Ozee suit is doing an excellent job of keeing me warm, best $$ I've spent in a long time. I need to get a visor extension for my Lynx though, I hear they make a big difference when the temps really get low.
