Dear Bradley hi from Demetri.
I would like to inform all microlight pilots about the fatal accident , but this is my opinion ONLY and does not depict any results from the accident investigation department which it will come later on and i must say that this is the first accident/incident concerning microlights they are going to investigate and they have no experience AT ALL so i gave them some feedback and starting points preliminary on how to go on according my experience as a microlight pilot for the last 10 years concerning how they fly ,rigged up, behave and flying general characteristics.
David Armstrong was the chairman of Cyprus Microlight Aircraft Club for the last ten years until accident and very experienced microlight pilot (HE FLEW AIRBORNE XT912 SHOWN ALL THE WAY FROM ENGLAND TO CYPRUS - OVER THE ALPS, FRANCE, ITALY ,CORFU, ATHENS, RHODES ISLAND - CYPRUS www.cyprusmicrolights.com relevant) and X RATED EXAMINER FROM UK C.A.A , although he was 73 years old when the accident happened. Also he was suffering from asthma , he was a heavy smoker and recently he was making a prostate cancer treatment(chemotherapy)Why i emphasize the latest , is because in my opinion ONLY believe play a significant role for the accident.
He took of from LCPH PAPHOS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT at around 10 morning and after 15 minutes flying over a mountainous area reported heavy turbulence over the radio and that he was returning back to the airport.Because of his age and health problems we use to help him rigg up the microlight because he was getting tired very easily.
After 5-10 minutes he reported three times i am in trouble WITHOUT STATING THE KIND OF TROUBLE OR THE CAUSE FOR EMERGENCY and after 10 min. he crashed. Whitenesses stated that then engine was revving all the way down to the crash field but they couldn't state if he was flying the microlight or having complete control. Also when i visited the crash site i must confess that there was no place to land it cause of the terrain which was mountainous with vine fields and trees so if he was having full control he was going to realise it and deploy the ballistic parachute..
What i think that happened is: If he was experienced turbulence probably he was tired and loose control from the reasons stated before and he couldn't evaluate the situation resulting to the crash.
Also a reason to believe this is the fact that he didn't use the ballistic parachute at all.
The autopsy showed that he might had a heart attack but this will be clear after the tissue samples they will take to examine when he had the incident and we have no info about this examinations to date.
Now if this isn't the reason for the crash probably the only reason that is remaining is a structural failure of the leading edge tubes because the investigation team said that there are reports about this issue from South Africa and they investigate it which it will be difficult to come up to because the XT912 is really fucked up and it will need really experts to come up to some real results.
Well , for now this is what i have to say and if there is any news i will post it.Thanks for asking and please fly safe.
Regards Demetri.

Hey Demitri,
I saw a trike similar to this displayed at Oshkosh a few years ago. My sense is that the XX style is a "one of a kind" by the builder. It has been pictured for several years with no real promotion or development. To my knowledge there are none in the USA, If I ever get a chance to travel to Europe that would be a fun stop to see this airplane. I think it would sell nicely if it were made available at an affordable price....especially in the colder climates.
