It,s an interesting problem. If Ethanol is going to hold water molicules in suspension we all clearly need to be using the correct filter.
I wounder if the auto companies have spotted this yet? Iv,e not heard of anything over here.
Tom.
Any chance of a quick outline of what the problem is? Iv,e maneged to get on to the sport pilot site but cant find the page.
I notced on your page you say you cant get API TC oil in USA any more? We still have it here.
Tom.
How do I reach John Cortesy?
Thanks!

The 503 problem was a combination of poor mantinance, (Not from me!)
The carb floots were not flooting properly and the fuel pump wasent pumping properly. it took a bit of finding but the problem is sorted now and the engine runs very well.I flew the trike yesterday and it,s great to fly.

I don't know who you're talking about in Key West, but I have a strong suspicion that it's a former workmate of mine. Larry Hannibal. He bought a SW just before retiring. He lives in the upper Keys and sometimes puts the plane on the cabin roof of his sailboat. I know he's gone to Bimini and Lake Okechobee like that. I don't know if he's done KW.
There's apparently two ways to stave of corrosion from a Seawing. The first is Finski's method of rinsing. I had little luck with that, probably because I had to wait until I got home, thus allowing the salt, which had been suspended in water, to adhere to the internal tube walls. Dave had his plane launch from his own dock, so he probably rinsed while it was still wet, thus more effective.
The main corrosion happens on all the powder-coated chrome-moly parts. I replaced them with home made stainless steel as they began to get questionable. I am now chrome-moly free, but my plane weighs more, as a result. Some people have had success with ceramic plating, such as Jet-hot. My brief foray into that realm was met with disappointing results.
The powder-coated aluminum trike frame also suffers from some oxidation. Someday, I'll rebuild it and have the parts anodized after drilling and prior to assembly. I also use (when possible) nylon flange bearings to deter electrolysis wherever I have a stainless fastener going through aluminum. I forgot to mention that I've replaced the fasteners in the wing with stainless AN and those near the waterline are marine stainless.
